The Black Bag

My Friday evening was spent going through every piece of paper work that I have compiled for the last 20 years. I could not find our original paperwork for our van. When we purchased it out dealer told us not to lose the agreement papers we signed, we would need it to get our money back if we didn't use our extended warranty plan.

We moved two years ago, I thought I had put all the important papers in a folder in my new home. I looked through all of those papers twice, thinking I might have missed it the first time. Everything from the kid’s birth certificates, our marriage certificate, shot records, titles to all of our vehicles. Everything except for the papers that I needed. I knew my husband would be upset if I didn't find this paper work. I'm not the most organized person in all the earth. I guess I am the least organized person in all the earth.

It seemed like I spent hours looking through all the boxes twice, my file cabinets twice, my important paperwork drawer twice. I sat down upstairs in our garage and was talking our loud to the Lord. I told Him I was going to be shot (figure of speak) if I didn't find this work. I told Him that I have looked everywhere I could think to look.

I didn't hear a voice in my ear, but as I sat there I saw a black bag that my husband use to carry all of his Church papers in. He led a Wednesday night group through the book of Jeremiah years ago. I thought "NO WAY" but I looked inside anyway. His notes for his class were there, and other papers, plus a folder. I thought if this is the paper work I am going to cry. You won't believe this, but it was the paperwork I had looking for; I was so happy I ran and called my husband at work right away. He told me he had full confidence in me that I would find the paperwork. I told him it was a miracle that I found it since it was in his bag. He laughed at me and said good job.

I am glad that awful adventure is over. I have two more file cabinets now. I am going to organize my paper work so I won't have to go through that again. The thing is I could have had all the paperwork nicely organized in file cabinet and that paperwork would have still been in my husbands black bag.

I have been there! Hunting for a paper is so frustrating. God truly answers our prayers and cares about our tiniest problems. I handled much of my son's "stuff" while he was in Teen Challenge being delivered by God from drug addiction. A lot of paper work! I hunted many times for things I needed.

Thank you for stopping by yesterday. YOur comment was right on with what my husband was saying. I need to reflect more and rush through life less!

Come back to visit any time!

I'm so glad you found the papers! I miss things I'm looking for when I get frustrated at not being able to find something. Calming down really does help. :)

Lori,

That is SO like me!
2 years ago we had a hurricane scare- expected a lot of wind and water! At that time I knew , pretty much, where all the important papers were(all in boxed)... I moved things around to safer places!Since then I've forgotten which boxes hold the papers I SHOULD keep track of!

I MUST go through all that stuff and get organized!!

But I thought *I* was the most disorganized person... oh the things I have lost... :)

Glad you found that paper work though, I know how frustrating that can be.

Any idea how it got there? That's amazing. I'm very organized about paperword but still lose something from time to time, usually some important note I made that I desperately need. Happens to all of us and it makes me completely crazy when I can't find something.

Right now I searching this house up and down for my soup ladel. Last time I saw it, Cameron was playing with it. Try dipping soup from a pot with a tablespoon. Sigh...

I am so glad that you were able to find the paperwork.
You know, sometimes we think that we can't bother God with the small stuff (at least is true for me)...I have done this before on a computer file...I prayed out loud because I could not remember the password. I closed my eyes and let me hand glide over the keyboard and the file opened...I know that it was not me at all...I wish I could just let go of everything like that in my life.

The moral of this story is that it doesn't pay to be organized, we will still lose things?
I know the general area where things should be, but from there it gets hard. I have a couple of borrowed books I didn't finish reading. I know the room they are in (I think).

As eph2810 said, praying out loud is so powerful! God answered your prayer in an amazing way. I've had similar experiences too.

Thanks for stopping by my little portion of blog land this week. We learned this lesson all too well as we moved all over the country while I was in the AF. Now those papers immediately go to one place and we clean them out yearly.

I just have to remember to put all important paper work in one place. I cause myself a lot of work sometimes. In this case it wasn't me who put the paperwork in the bag, but if I had a place for papers like that my husband would have given me the paperwork.

revee,

I just have a feeling from reading your blog that you are a very organized person. I can have learned great things from you already.

Jel,

I hate to say this, but it does make me feel better knowing I'm not the only person that has these problems.

leslieAnn,

Thank you, me too!

One question, milk in the microwave?

junieRose,

This isn't funny but when anything is missing around our house my family has a saying. "Mom must have put it were she put all the socks".

Jon Cox,

Thank you jon, and your welcome. You are very talented.

Connie,

Maybe we are tied for first? : )

Barb,

My husband and I talked about how that paperwork got into his black bag. We came up with "it must have been my fault somehow". Everything is mom fault around our house. It is a lasting joke. If it is missing mom must have put it up because it was important. I just never remember were that important place is.

green eyed girl on planet earth,

I have no idea why I looked in that black bag, but I am so thankful that I did.

Lori said...

Jim,

Yes, that was the moral of this story.

e-Mom,

You have no idea how thankful I am to have found that paperwork. I'm not very organined, but I am very determined when I set out to do something.

greenspot,

Thank you for this story. I am glad your sister found that check. It is really bad when it has to do with your job.

I promise I am going to get more organized.

I am glad you are doing o.k.

David,

That is what I will be doing from now on. When I say things like this my husband laughs at me, but this time I am going to get down to business and get things in order.
