A Christian Marriage

A Christian Marriage

The Bible teaches us that God is the Creator of marriage. As the Designer of marriage, God can best teach us how a husband and wife should live together

Ephesians 5:22-25 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for it.

I Corinthians 7:3-4 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.

God's plan for marriage is to provide companionship, to prevent sexual immorality, and to provide children with loving parents.

Marriage can provide a home where Christianity is practiced. In the Christian home God is considered in every decision. The husband, wife, and children are encouraged to live as Jesus wants us to live. The Christian home serves as an example to non-Christians who want the same kind of happiness they see in the home of Christians. If you want a better home, then learn to live as Jesus means for us to live.

If we are going to have a Christian marriage, I think the key word here is “CHRISTian”. The Bible tells the husband to love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it. (Eph. 5:25). The key here is to love her as Christ loved the church. This is the way Christian men should love their wives.

In the same way, you wives, need to be submissive to your own husbands, so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior 1 Peter 3:1-2

To keep our marriage strong we have to keep Christ in the center of it. We need to pray together, respect and honor one another, we need to be slow to speak and quick to listen, COMMUNICATION, we need to choose to love our mate each and every day.

When I think of my husband I think of this;

He works long hours, with little or no time for himself. He puts up with my mood swings even when I can hardly stand myself. He is full of energy, he has a great imagination, he is very intelligent, he’s understanding and very flexible. My husband is the leader in our home, he leads with love and kindness. He is my protector, supporter, provider.

1 Corinthians 11:3 “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God."

If we want a Christian marriage, Christ must be the center point in our lives!
Plus, lots of hugs and kisses doesn't hurt! : )

Hi, Lori. I came across your blog and I wanted to say that I appreciate your upbeat attitude toward your cancer treatment. When I had breast cancer in 2005 my doctor told me to pray (isn't that amazing?) because his patients who prayed and kept their attitude on the positive side did much better than those who didn't. After the turmoil of being put through all the treatments ( I only had surgery and radiation, no chemo), I feel like I have a gift from the Lord - a new life, and I want to live it with gusto! Congratulations to you, keep trusting in the Lord and rejoicing in His goodness.

Hi Lori, this is a wonderful post. My first marriage fell apart about the time Christ couldn't be in it anymore.
One Christian partner can't hold the marriage together. I'll just say 'been there,' it is awful.
I am so happy for being married now to Mrs. Jim, she is truly a great Christian woman, wife, and mother. You two would get along very nicely.
